Bird communities help us to understand forest resilience

The analysis we publish is a result of the action A4 and concerns the comparison of past 30 years series of data available for bird communities of Sicily.

The nesting birds are a category that, for a number of reasons essentially practical, well suited as environmental indicators.

The study conducted shows that the status of the species of birds that nest in Sicilian forest has improved in recent decades; in this period there has been a general increase in communities made up of species preferring forest environments. Despite this is true at regional scale, at local scale we are also witnessing opposite trends especially where forested areas have suffered degradation phenomena.
